Texans with the Guys

Ah, what a Sunday.

Every once in a while, we pastors need to get away from "churchy" things. I got my chance again this Sunday with what has become an annual trip to watch the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium.

One of the members of the church donates 4 tickets in the Brazos Suite in our Fall Festival Silent Auction. A couple of the guys go in with me so that we can purchase them.

Dave, Darrel, myself, and a newcomer to the group, Luis, headed for Houston as folks were arriving for worship at the church on Sunday. Part of me felt like a heathen, but part of me knew I needed some time away.

It was a very relaxing time. I hadn't been so relaxed in quite some time. We enjoyed gourmet hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken strips, peanuts, popcorn, and chips--all included in the ticket price. So were all non-alcoholic drinks. Can you say fun?

The Texans lost the game, but that was secondary. None of us were all that emotionally invested in the team--not like some of the crazy folks we saw. We were more interested in enjoying a good time together. Which we had.

I brought home souveniers for the kids: each received a soft Texans football and a free pom pom. I am glad to say that Kevin spent much more time with the footballs and avoided the pom poms. The girls, on the other hand, were quite the opposite.

Kudos to Dawna and her friend Andrea for looking after the kids so that us guys could hang out. Going to have to find some time in the future to give her and her girl friends a chance to have a good time together.
